RSPCA appeal over cage trap laid near badger sett

The RSPCA is appealing for information after a cage trap was discovered near a badger sett in Llechryd. The trap had been baited with meat and a calf leg.

One half of the trap was situated on land belonging to the person who called the RSPCA whilst the other half was on land belonging to a local hunt kennels.

RSPCA inspector Keith Hogben said: “The location of this trap is highly suspicious. I have received a number of calls in this area from people alleging that many badgers have disappeared. Under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, it is an offence to wilfully kill, injure, ill-treat or trap badgers and it’s vital that we receive more information about the owner of this trap and whether anyone has seen any badgers being trapped in the device”.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should ring the RSPCA on 0300 1234999. Calls are in confidence.
