Illegal gin trap hurts cat

RSPCA Wales has put out an appeal for information about illegal gin traps, following injuries to a cat.

The charity says Linx, a two-year-old Burmese tomcat, was squealing in pain and unable to stand when he was found by his owner June David, of North Cornelly, Bridgend, last week, after an illegal gin trap had cut into a hind leg.

Fortunately, no bones or tendons were broken, but the RSPCA wants to hear from anyone who knows anything about the incident or the use of gin traps.

RSPCA Superintendent for Wales, Kevin Manning said, “Gin traps are illegal and are a most cruel and barbaric way of catching any animal. Traps cause terrible suffering to wildlife and domestic animals as they often do not kill instantly. Animals can die through horrific injuries, dehydration or even predation from other animals. If we could prove that someone had set this trap we would certainly be pursuing a prosecution.”

Anyone with information about Linx’s injuries should contact the RSPCA on 08705 555999.
