Fell runner attacked in Cumbria

Police are investigating an attack on a fell runner at lunchtime today.

The victim of the “assault causing actual bodily harm” has been described as a middle aged man who was running over Mardale Fell, near Haweswater reservoir.

He was beaten across the back by another man who was holding a walking stick. The crime took place at around 12.30pm.

The attacker was near a pack of hounds when the assault took place.

Police have asked anyone with any information to come forward by calling officers on 101 or Crimesoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

WG note: The runner was attacked when he stopped to watch as the Ullswater Foxhounds, who had marked a fox to ground on United Utilities land at Mardale.
